Brown rice is in high demand in Singapore as consumers seek food staples that are healthy and low in sugar, in line with the Singaporean government’s policy to combat diabetes, the DITP said on January 23.
DITP Director-General Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat stated that according to a report from the DITP’s overseas office in Singapore, due to consumer demand, restaurants in Singapore are offering more brown rice menus and options while supermarkets are dedicating more shelf space to brown rice and health products.
“With fierce competition from neighbouring countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia, Thai exporters must demonstrate the quality of Thai rice and apply for Singapore’s Healthier Choice certification, which guarantees that the rice is good for health.”
