Commerce Minister, Sontirat Sontijirawong, announced on February 21 that target export growth of 8% for 2018 can be achieved “by improving export promotion campaigns”. Accordingly, MoC officials will promote exports in potential markets, including China, India, CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) and Russia.
“We will send our trade mission team to explore opportunities in new markets such as Taiwan, countries in the Middle East, Latin America and Africa,” the Commerce Minister added. Thailand will increase exports of fruit and services, as well as assisting SMEs to export their products and use online trade channels, he added.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand’s export value in January 2018 was US$20.1 billion, a year-on-year rise of 17.56%, the largest increase in 62 months.
