The DITP has encouraged Thai businesses to explore the online market in Myanmar as the country’s consumers are increasingly purchasing products via e-commerce platforms.
According to a report dated July 15 from DITP’s overseas office in Yangon, Myanmar has more than 22 million active social media users, or 41% of the total population. The most popular social media platforms are Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Meanwhile, the top five e-commerce platforms consist of Facebook, Shop.com.mm, Barlolo.com, Spree.com.mm and Baganmart.com. Most online Myanmar buyers opt for Facebook when they want to purchase products online while payment is made on delivery.
In 2019, there were approximately 180,000 active online buyers ordering an average of US$20 per purchase. The top five online imported products are fashion products (clothes, shoes, hats, handbags, etc), cosmetics products, transport tickets, books, and food and beverages.
